  • Early Learning Expectation:Viewing Images and Other MediaMaterials. Children begin to develop strategies that assist them inviewing a variety of images and multimedia materials effectivelyand critically.

    • collaboration
    • critical thinking

Tasks:
1) Describe the main steps of the activity/lesson/project here:
For this lesson, I will use the Kahoot website to create questions about the alphabet, "what is the uppercase letter of "k" look like?"
Next, I will pass out the iPads to each child, having already registered each one to Kahoot.
I will explain the directions to the children that I will read each question, they will select the correct answer based on the color of the answer and wait for everyone to respond. Once all responses are in, I will show them the correct answer.
After having the children answer a few questions, I will take away some of the iPads, explain to them that they will take turns getting to pick the answer with one iPad and they have to collaborate with each other to come to an answer, this will be facilitated by an adult.

To build off of this, the next day, we will walk around the school with the iPads to take pictures of things that start with the letters we learned the day before
After that, I will use the pictures the children took to put on a new Kahoot game for them to recognize the letters they found on our alphabet hunt.
Personalization/Differentiation
How will you incorporate "student choice" into this project/lesson?
Having the children take their own pictures of what they want
How will you challenge strong students?
For the strong students, I would have them select the picture of something that starts with a letter instead of the capital or lower case recognition
How will you support struggling students?
For struggling students, we would assist them and sit with them for each question, have them work with each other in their groups, send link home to parents so they could play at home
Real-World Connection
What is the real world application for this project/lesson?
Have the children bring in something that starts with one of the letters from the game the next day.
Having the children take their own pictures of what they want
Why is this work important? relevant?
It allows the children to learn letter recognition in a fun and different way
Who is the audience for this project/lesson?
My young five's
How will you connect adults from outside of school to the lesson/project?
Send it home before and after so the parents can play with their children
How will the work be displayed publicly?
When the children take pictures of things that start with certain letters, we will put those on Kahoot for them to see and we can then play another game using their own pictures.
Assessment:
How will you assess the students learning?
I will observe them during the activity and look at their answers at the end of the day, try it again at the end of the month and compare the results.
How do you know students can "transfer" the learning to new situations?
If they can identify an object and what letter it starts with
Will there be an opportunity for constructive feedback?
Yes, at the end of the activity, I will ask the students what their favorite part of the activity was.
